In this blended course Diagnostics of Dissociation & Dissociative Disorders , you will learn how to perform diagnostics of dissociative disorders in a structured and evidence-based manner. The course covers diagnosis of dissociative disorders according to the DSM-5 as well as recognizing transdiagnostic dissociative symptoms and differential diagnosis with other disorders.

Objective

Upon completion of the course, the following goals will have been achieved:
- Be able to design a state of the art structured diagnostic pathway with clients with dissociative symptoms or disorders
- Recognize and distinguish dissociative symptoms from other mental health disorders
- Be familiar with the use of the SCID-D and DSP-I interviews, and know how to use them effectively within your diagnostic practice.
- Know what treatments may be indicated for dissociative disorders 

Target

The Diagnostics Dissociation & Dissociative Disorders course is ideally suited for GZ-psychologists, psychotherapists, Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Neuropsychologists, Nurse Specialists, and psychiatrists who are themselves involved in the diagnostic process. 

Content

In this course, you will learn how to screen for suspected dissociative disorder. How you can then perform structured diagnostics. And what to look for during observations in terms of attitude, behavior and contact. During the course you will learn to use validated measuring instruments and to further develop your clinical view. There is ample attention for differential diagnosis with other disorders, and the distinction with imitation and simulation of dissociative disorders. The state of the art instruments that are internationally recommended for the diagnosis of dissociative disorders the SCID-D (Semi-structured Clinical Interview for Dissociative Symptoms and Disorders) and the DSP-I (Interview for the Dissociative Subtype of PTSD) will be trained. Finally, indication in dissociative disorders will also be covered.

Methodology

The course offers an interactive mix of theory and practice. In preparation, you will watch online the Psyflix series Diagnostics Dissociation and Dissociative Disorders. During the meetings, you will work on your diagnostic understanding through case histories, practical exercises and role plays. You will practice, among other things, taking the SCID-D and recognizing and handling dissociative symptoms.
